Low on funds? Little ways to grow your money

Hello gorgeous souls! I wanted to take some time to talk about something important and ‘taboo’….. MONEY! Let’s be real, adulting takes more financial sacrifices than I was prepared for, and I already had money anxiety! It costs so much now to live on your own as a young adult. I just turned 22 and I am living over 1,500 miles away from home, so I had to make some sacrifices to be where I want to be. For example, I definetly do not travel as often or eat out as much here. Let’s not forget, gas is $5 now so we must be strategic when it comes to transportation. I also do not eat out much because, no offense to CO but, they don’t put they foot in it out here. I can’t find bbq for the life of me. Some true southern cooking. Also, places close at 11 out here (no more 24 hour fast food or donut places). The positive side of that though, is I am reaching my body goals by cooking all my food and working out at home, as well as saving money.

Money Mantra

Money flows to me easily and effortlessly in increasing amounts from expected and unexpected sources

To be honest, as much as I want to give in to the idea that adulthood isn’t “supposed” to be fun, I can’t. I like having extra money to have a drink with my friends or sign up for a yoga class. I like being able to shop and travel often but sometimes…. things don’t work out like that. Along with wanting to pay my bills, save money, enjoy life… the job market is ass right now, gas is $5, and rent is increasing. So HOW am I supposed to enjoy my 20s if I feel broke AF?

Well, I want to share some ways I grew some money outside of my dayjob. Remember to ALWAYS do your own research and assess your own situation.

  • Sell stuff you don’t need – Let’s be real, It is a very western practice to have spaces full of ‘things’. Most of the time, it is things we don’t really use. If you haven’t been using it, but need some money, sell it. Remember, you can get an updated one later when you’re ready to use it. I started to feel comfortable parting with material things as a novice adventurer. I try to keep as little stuff as possible for when I move again or leave for a trip. I sell new/gently used clothes with Plato’s closet, and furniture/electronics on OfferUp.
  • Monetize a craft – Anything you know how to do, or are willing to learn, you can make money from. For most of highschool and college, I made money from side hustles. I took graduation photos, braided hair, tutored students, and designed logos for cash. Some side hustles can even turn your passion into a career! Please leave a comment if you would like a starter’s guide to side hustles!
  • Spend Smarter – This is more about saving, BUT it is a great way to keep more money in your pocket. Pay attention to grocery markets and stores that have cheaper prices for the things you like. When eating out, be mindful of deals during lunch or happy hours to save money. As an online shopper, it is helpful to install a browser extension that applies coupons to orders as you shop. Side Note: Check out Fetch Rewards to scan your reciepts for points!

  • Surverys etc – There are lots of advertisments showing companies where you can take surveys, or test products, for money. Personally, those are my last resort, because it takes a long time to accumulate the amount of money you need to even cash out, and some are basically clickbait and not worth the effort. Some programs are better than others so do your research if you go that route. Side Note: In the last couple of months, I have been seeing this “Flash Rewards” ad for $750 Cash app. I tried it, and got $100. I believe it is possible to get to $750, but it may not be free. As you complete deals for each level, the more deals require some form of payment or subscription. Which might be worth it, but I haven’t gotten that far. I cashed out pretty early, but got $100 on a Visa card.

I hope this helped give you some ideas on making extra cash outside of your day job! I am working to improve my finacial literacy, so make sure to follow and/or subscribe to learn with me!
