Hello, lovely folks! Eating healthy can seem intimidating and complicated, but it doesn’t have to be! A great way to try different flavors and foods is to put them in a bowl. A power bowl can be great fuel. It is jam-packed with vitamins and rich ingredients that increase energy, fill the belly, and support a healthy lifestyle.
How to Build a Buddha Bowl. First, make sure you have a nice sturdy bowl (this is a full meal :)). Second, gather the ingredients. Start with a base of greens, grains, and/or a starch. Add as many or as little fruits/veggies that you want. Don’t forget the protein! Plant-based proteins (Tofu, chickpeas, beans/lentils, nuts, supplement) and animal-based proteins (Chicken, beef, eggs, cheese) are both good choices for a great power bowl. Lastly, add your toppings. Healthy fats, like avocado slices and sesame seeds, make a great addition to any bowl. Squeeze some lemon juice or drizzle a dressing to top it off.
What makes these bowls cost effective, is the variety of ingredients. A buddha bowl can be built out of almost anything already in your kitchen. For example: sometimes I have canned or frozen vegetables that I have not used, so I can create a bowl by adding ingredients from other food groups. I, personally, make spice blends to solidify the flavor of the bowl. For spice, a Cajun blend with turkey sausage and peppers is my go – to. For Asian flavors, I use fresh ginger and garlic with shredded cabbage and ground turkey. For a Latin flavor, I use cilantro and lime with black beans and chicken.
